Daenerys is a strong woman and a figure who offers good food for thought. After eight seasons, one of the most iconic characters of Game of Thrones is Daenerys Targaryen, the young woman with silver hair who manages to establish herself as a leader after facing obstacles and difficulties.

Played by the talented Emilia Clarke, the mother of dragons is for many a model of courage and determination to follow. In a world where women continue to fight for equality, Daenerys knows exactly where she belongs.

Of course, that’s not exactly a great example of behavior. To be honest, no Game of Thrones characters are. But she, although imperfect, is not lacking in quality; with a clear goal, he decided to correct the mistakes made by his ancestors.

Adapted from George RR Martin’s novels, Game of Thrones chronicles epic battles and struggles for power. In this scenario, kings, queens, knights, illegitimate children and murderers compete for victory. The mother of dragons also fights for dominion over the Seven Kingdoms. His journey, however, is also an inner growth.

Game of Thrones has achieved tremendous worldwide success. Even those who do not like the genre and have not followed the series, know its name and have heard about it. It is brutal, unpredictable, beautiful in its sets.

Daenerys Targaryen comes to the series as a young princess in exile. Dominated by her brother, a mad and violent man, she becomes the wife of Khal Drogo. At first treated like a slave, the mother of dragons soon manages to win the respect of her husband.

Her life as a bride and mother is short. When Daenerys loses her husband and child, she gets her three dragons in return. Arising herself from the flames like a dragon, she transforms herself into an almost messianic figure. Little by little, she builds up a loyal army, ready to follow her into battle to conquer the Seven Kingdoms.

What does the Khaleesi teach?

Being a leader in a male-dominated society is difficult. The challenges facing a woman of power are many. But Daenerys is a good example of managing that power.

1. Letting go to win in the long run

Khaleesi knows pain closely, no doubt. Used, hurt, betrayed and abandoned by many people, yet the mother of dragons continues to look life straight in the eye. As she gets strong, Daenerys learns that to win, you also have to let go. And letting go also means letting go of what is negative.

Daenerys frees the slaves at Slaver’s Bay. She could have taken them and sent them to conquer the Seven Kingdoms for her, instead she prefers to make them free men. Why does he do it? Because by letting them go, she makes sure the remaining soldiers are really loyal to her.

2. Accept the fear, but don’t let it take control of you

Ambition increases and the difficulty of the challenges to face increases, but this does not stop it. People important to her die, she loses some battles, and she keeps moving forward.

In many scenes we have seen Daenerys in despair or confusion because of great dilemmas. She doesn’t give up and, even if she is scared, she keeps her goal clear. Fear is a normal and natural emotion. If we interact with it intelligently, we can take advantage of its existence.

3. Daenerys, you  can be fabulous and strong at the same time

Society often has high expectations of women. In the business or corporate world, they are expected to be strong and delicate at the same time. They are always judged on their appearance and attitude. Somehow there is still a prejudice against aesthetics: as if beauty and sensitivity were in contrast with intelligence, strength or courage.

Daenerys shows us that her decision doesn’t make her any less feminine. Khaleesi is cared for and always maintains an attitude of sophisticated elegance. Dressed for the job you are looking for, so they say, right?

4. Valar Morghulis

Game of Thrones seems to gradually regret the way it treated women in the first few seasons. The female characters take on a new light as they go. All the women in the series are talented.

In our world too, women are gaining power. They lead companies, work groups, movements and projects. Television must take note. Valar Morghulis means “all men must die”. But as Daenerys points out, “yes, all men must die, but we are not men.”
